Cryptology
Spring 2000
Class Presentations

As I mentioned during interviews, and as I would have mentioned during the class that was snowed out, each student will make two in-class presentations

Why presentations? Several reasons:

The first presentation will concern the use of cryptology in a book (fiction or non-fiction) - a list of books is given here. Hereafter, I will refer to these presentations as book reports.

The second presentation will be based on conference work (unless you are not doing a conference, in which case it will be based on a topic of your choosing). Hereafter, I will refer to these presentations as conference reports. (More information on conference reports will be forthcoming.)

Fret not! These presentations need not be long nor complicated. You do not need to bring props, overheads, videos, etc. (although you are welcome to). All I expect is for you to talk to the class for about 10-15 minutes, try to get the rest of the class involved so you do not have to do all the talking, write some examples on the board, that sort of thing. It should be fun and is not intended to cause undue stress.

Scheduling

Presentations will begin on Tuesday, February 8.

Book reports will take place before Spring Break:

   (A) 02/08 2 reports
   (B) 02/15 3 reports
   (A) 02/22 3 reports
   (B) 02/29 3 reports
   (A) 03/07 2 reports

Conference reports will take place after Spring Break:

   (A) 04/04 2 reports
   (B) 04/11 2 reports
   (A) 04/18 2 reports
   (B) 04/25 3 reports
   (A) 05/02 2 reports
   (B) 05/09 2 reports
(The number of reports per class is, of course, subject to change.)

To sign up for reports, please e-mail with me your top two preferences for both the book report and conference report (i.e., send me four dates) as soon as possible. I will assign dates on a first-come-first-served basis. My recommendation is to choose a date that will follow relatively shortly after a conference meeting. That way, if you have questions concerning your presentation I can provide as much assistance as possible.

Note: I need two intrepid volunteers to present their book reports on February 8!
