Reading response #4 - due by 10:00pm Monday, February 20

Read the full transcript of the "dialogue" between the New York Times technology writer Kevin Roose and Microsoft's new Bing AI Chatbot (which we started reading together in class today), and post a written response on our class discussion board. For this assignment, I am interested in hearing your thoughts and reactions to this specific conversation, and also regarding AI chatbots in general, including ChatGPT. How do you view this type of technology in terms of its potential for positive or negative impacts on education, social development, the workplace environment, or any other facets of society? Please also include at least one question for class discussion.

I consider your response postings to be official writing assignments, so you should take some time to formulate your thoughts and craft your response, making sure to carefully proofread it for proper grammar and punctuation before submitting it.

Here is how to post your response:

  1. Using your favorite word-processing software, write your response offline, carefully editing and proofreading it for spelling and grammar. If you compose your response online in MySLC, you run the risk of losing your work before you're done, due to Internet connectivity problems or other technical glitches that can arise. Some students have lost their almost-finished postings this way in the past, so don't let it happen to you! You have been warned.
  2. Log into MySLC.
  3. Click on the COMP 1026 F(1) course link under My Courses.
  4. Click on Discussion on the left. (If you don't see the links on the left, click on the three horizontal bars in the upper left corner of the window.)
  5. Click on Spring - Reading response #4.
  6. Click on Add post and then copy and paste your written response into the text window. Please do not attach your response as a separate file. Then click the Submit button at the bottom of the window.
  7. If you're using a public computer, remember to log out of MySLC and close your browser when you're done.

Please let me know if you have any problems with this procedure.
