Reading response #1 - due by 10:00pm Monday, January 30
Read the two Dialogues Prelude and Ant Fugue, and
Chapter X: Levels of Description and Computer Systems (pages 275-336) of
GEB. Then post a short written response on our class discussion board. One
or two paragraphs is fine. Your response should not be a summary of
the reading itself; rather, you should describe your own thoughts and
reactions — questions that occurred to you as you were reading, points
that you found particularly interesting, connections to other relevant ideas,
passages that were confusing, and so on. Please also include at least one
question for class discussion. I consider your response postings to be
official writing assignments, so you should take some time to formulate your
thoughts and craft your response, making sure to carefully proofread it for
proper grammar and punctuation before submitting it.
Here is how to post your response:
- Using your favorite word-processing software, write your response
offline, carefully editing and proofreading it for spelling and
grammar. If you compose your response online in MySLC, you run the risk of
losing your work before you're done, due to Internet connectivity problems
or other technical glitches that can arise. Some students have lost their
almost-finished postings this way in the past, so don't let it happen to
you! You have been warned.
- Log into MySLC.
- Click on the COMP 1026 F(1) course link under My Courses.
- Click on Discussion on the left. (If you don't see the links on the
left, click on the three horizontal bars in the upper left corner of the
window.)
- Click on Spring - Reading response #1.
- Click on Add post and then copy and paste your written
response into the text window. Please do not attach your response as a
separate file. Then click the Submit button at the bottom of the
window.
- If you're using a public computer, remember to log out of MySLC and close
your browser when you're done.
Please let me know if you have any problems with this procedure.
