CS 10 Homework 4

Due by the beginning of class Tuesday, February 18

You should finish working through Tutorials 5 and 6 from class this week if you haven't already done so. You do not need to turn these in, but the more practice you get with HTML, the better.

All of the files required for the problems below are available in the CS 10 class folder under Homework/HW4. Just ignore the steps in the book's instructions that refer to "your Data Disk". If you can't access the class folder easily, the files are also available on the CD-ROM that came with your book, or on the Web.

  1. Do Case Problem 2 (Browyer Realty) on pages 5.41-42. Put all of the files for this problem into a single subfolder named Browyer.

  2. Do Case Problem 4 (Warner Peripherals, Inc.) on page 5.45. Put all of the files for this problem into a single subfolder named Warner. A sample page layout is shown here, although you may create a different design if you prefer.

  3. Do Case Problem 2 (DeLong Enterprises, Inc.) on pages 6.55-56. Put all of the files for this problem into a single subfolder named DeLong.

  4. Convert the following binary numbers (base 2) to decimal (base 10). Show all of the steps involved.

Convert the following decimal numbers to binary. Show all of the steps involved.
If b is a binary number, what value is represented by b0 — that is, what value do you get when you place an extra zero at the end of a binary number? What happens if you place two zeros at the end? Generalize your answer to any number of zeros.

Turning in your homework

For part 4, write out your answers on a piece of paper and turn this in during class on Tuesday.

For parts 1-3, create separate subfolders to hold all of the files for each problem. Put these subfolders into a single top-level folder called Your Name HW 4 and drop the folder into the CS 10 drop box.

If you're an off-campus student who can't easily access the class folder, you may create a single zip file of your folder called Your Name HW 4.zip and email this file to me as an attachment with the file name as subject line. The easiest way to create a zip file in Windows is to right-click on your folder and select "Add to filename.zip".
