Conference Project Guidelines

Your project writeup in PDF or Word format, and all code and supporting files necessary to run your program, should be submitted through the Homework Upload Site.

If you have very large data files (several megabytes or larger) that you feel are necessary to include, you may need to use an alternative method such as making the files available through Google Drive and including a link to the files in your writeup or code. However, keep in mind that if you trained a neural network or ran a GA as part of your project, I very likely won't try to re-train your code myself, so submitting all of your data files is probably unnecessary. Instead, you could include just a few smaller representative files, so I can see what kind of data you used.

Your project writeup should be 4-5 pages in length, although if you feel it needs to be longer in order to adequately explain what you did, that is not a problem. Your writeup should be structured roughly as follows:

• Project Title / Your Name

• Background and Goals

  • What was the overall motivation for your project?
  • What were the specific goals you hoped to achieve?
  • What exactly was your system supposed to do?
  • Provide any other necessary background information here.

• Methodology

  • What type of approach (or approaches) did you use? (e.g. neural networks, genetic algorithms, reinforcement learning, symbolic AI, etc.)
  • Describe the overall organization of your program, and its inputs and outputs.
  • Was learning involved? If so, how did you train your system?

• Results

  • What experiments did you try, and what was their outcome? Include graphs, tables, or diagrams as appropriate.
  • How did you evaluate the system's performance?
  • What worked?
  • What didn't? Describe any difficulties you ran into.

• Conclusions

  • What conclusions did you draw from your project work?
  • What would the next steps be if you were to continue the project in the future?

• How to Run It

  • Include clear and complete instructions on how to run your program or demo.
  • Include a brief description of all files needed to run your program or demo.
